MAYAH's new IOCAST series of SD/HD en/decoders, multirate encoders and transcoders offers MPEG-4 H.264/AVC at the next level of picture quality and performance. IOCAST is designed for an impressive range of applications: from SNG/ENG to studio links with a pair of encoder and decoder, or from Web-Streaming to IPTV with a single- or multirate SD and HD encoders.
Detlef Wiese, MAYAH’s co-founder and general manager:
“While others focus on encoding/decoding only, MAYAH has invested in the functionality based on MPEG-4 H.264 standard, bringing it to applications such as multirate encoding, transcoding and Flash streaming. It’s an efficient instrument to use in virtually any imaginable professional environment that will bring, as we believe, many benefits for the broadcasting and the Internet streaming market”.
With point-to-point RTP unicast streaming, with RTP or MPEG TS over IP multicasting, with 3GPP for mobile video platforms the IOCAST is great for playout head-ends of any scale for Cable, Satellite, IPTV or Mobile broadcasting.
Additionally there is an optional Adobe Flash/RTMP streaming feature available for WebTV and all kinds of Internet streaming servers such as Adobe Flash Streaming Server, WOWZA or Darwin Streaming Server.
Broadcasters and telecom operators can really cut their operational costs with MAYAH IOCAST 5101 or 9101 transcoders offering real-time on-the-fly transcoding of the IP / MPEG TS video from MPEG-2 video to MPEG-4 H.264/AVC and vice versa.

C11 and SPORTY at the Footbal World Cup in South Africa

At least 30 of MAYAH C11 codecs are in use for traditional ISDN communication between the various locations in South Africa and the broadcasters’ headquarters.
In some cases Audio-over-IP capabilities of MAYAH codecs helps to bridge missing lines in the infrastructure. Alfacam Deutschland GmbH has been appointed by Germany’s Public Broadcasters ARD/ZDF as technical services supplier including 5 HD OB vans. They use MAYAH C11 for technical and editorial communication. The private Broadcaster RTL Germany keeps MAYAH Sporty Reporter Codec as a perfect standalone commentary position back-up solution.

A dozen of C11 Audio Codecs were used for a higher quality transmission of the commentators’ voices.
Among the broadcasters benefiting from the MAYAH codecs availability were BBC (UK), SR and SVT (Sweden), TROS (Netherlands), SF (Switzerland) and the radio division of the host broadcaster NRK. NRK also used their MAYAH audio codec to establish a SIP-based Audio-over-IP connection to Moscow over the Internet.
Russia’s biggest public radio broadcaster Radio Mayak provided their listeners with multiple live contributions from Oslo. |

About twelve private radio stations and networks in Germany, Austria and Switzerland broadcasted the concert of Robbie Williams from Cologne in March 2010, live. Frankfurt-based Hit Radio FFH was in charge of the signal distribution and decided to use the fast and cost-effective solution with audio codecs over the available ISDN lines.
Ten C1161 units have been supplied by MAYAH additionally to the station's own codecs for this event and were used to transmit the live audio with APT-X, MPEG-4 AAC, MPEG Layer 2 and Layer 3 (mp3) formats.

Use MAYAH SIP-Server for your tests!

With every MAYAH Communications Codec we provide a SIP Account for MAYAH’s SIP server. This account can be used to test and try the SIP functionality of your Codec and comes free of charge.
In order to use the SIP server you need an Internet connection (this could be a 3G connection as well), a valid DNS Server setting (this is most likely correct if you use DHCP).
While SIP account is set to “off” enter stun.mayah.com as a STUN server and sip.mayah.com as a SIP registrar. Use the last 6 symbols of the serial number of your device as Phone Number, Username and Password. Then the SIP account must be set to “On”. Those unique IDs will allow you to easily transmit an audio between any two MAYAH devices over IP wherever they are, using SIP protocol according the EBU N/ACIP standard. In some cases IP Ports for RTP (5004/5005) and SIP (5060) still must be allowed or forwarded, depending on the network architecture.

ISDN-over-IP issues
The ISDN technology we are talking about is almost 20 years old, but is now combined with the Internet and that’s why an old proven technique results in a new situation. When transmitting via ISDN and using a bit rate which is higher than 64 kbps, different mechanisms are used to compensate the time shift between the
different number of ISDN lines in use. Increasingly the high quality ISDN connections all over the world fail if telecom operators route the ISDN traffic over IP network. Considering the typical jitter of the packet-based IP networks and even packet losses the synchronisation of the channels may become very difficult.
Some views on the current ISDN-over-IP issues for broadcasting industry and some recommendations are given in the new White Paper by MAYAH CEO Detlef Wiese » |
