The undoubted highlight of the recent IBC Exibition were the portable recorder & codec FLASHMAN II and the reporter codec SPORTY. They are now available for pre-order at a special price.
A new mobility for reporters and outside broadcasting is given by the unique combination of UMTS/3G and low bitrate low latency encoding, such as MPEG 4 AAC HEv2 and ELD.
The enourmous interest was shown by big broadcasters all over the world as well as smaller local radio stations, free-lance journalists, who also require more mobility, flexibility and cost-efficiency for their everyday job.
Multiple factory and user presets for mixing and transmission will allow the journalists and other end-users an instant choice of the operation mode. For comprehensive set-up or fast control of any of the recording and transmission parameters there is a remote software available. So the technicians can control the unit right from the studio. Live.
FLASHMAN II and Sporty fulfill the requirements of the large group of potential users with a revolutionary design, powerful rechargeble batteries, support of various types of IP-based real time audio transmission, such as Ethernet, UMTS/3G, with SIP protocol, advanced coding algorithms including MPEG-4 HE AACv2 and AAC ELD*. In addition, Sporty also supports PSTN and ISDN networks.

Eight CENTAURI II IP Audio Gateway Codecs with ISDN option and redundant power supplies for absolutely fail-safe operation will be installed soon in the four new 16-tons OB Vans of the Bavarian Public Radio (Bayerischer Rundfunk or BR). Their operation start is planned for the second quarter of 2008. Three of the vehicles are intended for the Munich broadcasting centre, another one – for the regional Studio Franken in Nuremberg. The codecs will be used for all types of the live transmissions. From two-minutes contributions from the required locations up to transmissions of the rock concerts – everything will be sent over to the main control room in Munich or control room of the Studio Franken.
Depending on the contents there are different coding algorithms to be used for transmissions. Low delay algorithms, such as AAC LD or 4SB ADPCM are preferable for speech, the classics like MPEG Layer 2 or Layer 3 may suit better for transmissions of music.

While new OB-Vans are yet under construction, Bavarian Public Radio & Television (BR) used MAYAH products at the Oktoberfest, the biggest and most famous beer festival of the world. The MERK II Portable Codec & Mixer was installed in the broadcasting room of the BR on location to transport the entire atmosphere sound from the beer pavilions to the main control room of the broadcaster over ISDN. The real-time control of the codec was realised over IP. The audio signal then was used in various ways including the live internet-stream available at the web-site of BR.
MERK II combines the advantages of a powerful audio codec and a small digital mixer. Up to four professional microphones and headphone sets can be plugged into the MERK II, while analog and digital AES/EBU inputs and outputs are still available. MERK II can operate over IP, ISDN or X.21 networks using more than 15 professional audio coding algorithms.
6,2 mio people visited the Oktoberfest 2007. About 60 percent are from Munich, 12 percent from Bavaria and about 15 percent are international visitors leading by Italy. 6,7 mio 1 Liter mugs beer and 104 oxen were consumed this year on Theresienwiese ("Theresa's fields").

Several regional broadcasters in Japan, members of the private held Japan Radio Network (JNR), chose MAYAH CENTAURI II for modernisation and extension of their codec park before the new baseball season.
RKB Radio and Kyushu Asahi Broadcasting Co., Ltd received the rights for live broadcasting of all the games of the Fukuoka Softbank Hawks team in the Fukuoka prefecture. In order to successfully transmit the signal to the partner stations in the other prefectures, they require a highly flexible solution. The capability of CENTAURI II to automatically synchronise with apt-X-based devices, as well as to the most of MPEG-based audio codecs in the world, along with an extensive IP-based audio and management functionality were the main reasons for making this choice. Excellent audio quality and high performance of CENTAURI II were taken in consideration as well.

Requirements for SIP based connections via the public Internet
The first part of a successful SIP testing / integration is the selection of an appropriate IP-connection. In Germany for example there are quite a lot of regional and big service providers that offer S-DSL links with useful capacities starting at 2 Mbit/s. When getting in contact with a service provider in your country please take the following points into consideration
