MAYAH introduce SPORTY, the new Portable Reporter Codec
for IP / WLAN / UMTS / ISDN & PSTN

MAYAH Stand at IBC: 4.155

Munich, July 4th 2007: This year at the IBC the innovative German manufacturer MAYAH Communications presents its newest product SPORTY. This is a Portable Reporter Codec with extensive communication capabilities, futuristic design for table-top or portable operation and featuring audio recording possibility.

Transmission

SPORTY can send and receive audio signals over IP/Ethernet, including such internet access types as ADSL or SDSL, as well as over optional Wi-Fi/WLAN or UMTS/3G/3.5G interfaces. The traditional interface for the broadcast industry – ISDN is also available, supporting different protocols for worldwide communication and amended by the famous MAYAH Flashcast® technology for automatic recognition of and synchronisation with virtually all ISDN Codecs in the world. For locations with no any digital communication possibilities SPORTY supports the conventional analogue telephone lines (PSTN).

Automation of the IP-connections is secured by a SIP/RTP implementation based on the EBU draft recommendations on Audio-over-IP.

For live transmission SPORTY offers two most advanced coding algorithms: MPEG-4 HE AACv2 – for the high quality sound at lowest possible bitrates and AAC ELD (Enhanced Low Delay, implementation by Coding Technologies)* for lower latency at comparatively low bitrates. In combination with FlashCast® technology and based on MAYAH’s strength of many years history in audio codec development, there are other algorithms supported, among them are G.711, G.722, MPEG Layer 2, Layer 3 linear audio, as well as the optional 4SB ADPCM and apt-X/Eapt-X.

Integrated SD card or USB interfaces can be used for audio logging in MPEG-4 HE AACv2 as well as in the conventional formats – PCM WAV (BWF), MPEG Layer 2 & Layer 3.

Operation and controls

Comfortable listening environment for journalists and commentators is reachable with SPORTY’s comprehensive internal audio routing functionality. The completely new user interface provides easy control over all significant audio, transmission and storage parameters. Large and informative display, intelligent control wheels, programmable function soft-keys and full-featured numeric keypad are amended by the web-based remote control.

SPORTY can be used both as a desktop device or as a portable codec with its new long-life rechargeable battery and with an optional carrying bag. Informative monochrome LCD-Display is equally easy readable as in the darkness as in the direct sunlight.

“In this highly innovative new product reporters and technical staff of the broadcasting companies will find the well-thought-out combination of versatility and ease of use. While the advanced interfacing allows SPORTY to communicate over various protocols including the more and more popular wireless networks, its user interface and proved technologies developed by MAYAH keep it all simple and demand less technical knowledge from the end-users. So the journalists can concentrate on creative side of their job” – says Detlef Wiese, one of the co-founders and general manager of MAYAH Communications GmbH.

With all the connectivity and mobility journalists really can transmit their reports home with SPORTY from almost anywhere in the world!
