MAYAH revolutionizes radio reporting with FLASHMAN II |
Munich, July 4th 2007: Whereas available market devices focus either on recording or on transmission – FLASHMAN II adds the ability revolutionizing the market of portable recorders: simultaneous recording and transmission of the audio back to the studio using the IP-capable networks. The leading German codec manufacturer MAYAH Communications will present the FLASHMAN II at the IBC 2007 in Amsterdam. Audio and Recording FLASHMAN II has two switchable Microphone / Line inputs with the professional XLR connectors and two Headphones / Line outputs. It records to SD Cards or USB sticks. With no limitations in terms of storage capacity of the used media, it is possible to record hours and hours of mono or stereo audio signals in three basic formats, such as PCM WAV (BWF), MPEG Layer 2 and Layer 3, as well as using the advanced MPEG-4 HE AAC v2 format. Originally intended for live streaming purposes it provides perceptively transparent audio quality at bit rates like 48 Kbit/s and even lower for stereo signal. Marks for later editing can be set during recording or playback. Transmission The exciting new ability – to record locally, while feeding Live – now gives a reporter higher control over their material and the ability to edit it after the transmission, for subsequent re-use. Basic connectivity provided via Ethernet IEEE 802.3 interface but FLASHMAN II also supports the most modern networks and interfaces for wireless communication. With an optional PCMCIA-adapter there are WLAN/Wi-Fi or UMTS/3G/3.5G and even 4G when it will be necessary available. With a simple setups one of the advanced coding algorithms for transmission can be chosen: an MPEG-4 HE AACv2 for high quality at the lowest bitrates or MPEG-4 AAC ELD*; for high quality with the very low delay. Conventional broadcasting algorithms, such as MPEG Layer 2, Layer 3, G.711, G.722 and others are available in combination with MAYAH FlashCast® technology for automatic codec recognition. For even higher mobility and interoperability the IP-connections can be automated with FLASHMAN II using a SIP protocol. Design & controls FLASHMAN II has inherited the robust design of its predecessor while most features were significantly improved and extended. With its extremely firm aluminium body and comfortable grip FLASHMAN II can be used in a rainforest, in a desert, beyond the polar circle or even at the government press-conference. Informative monochrome LCD-Display is equally easy readable in a darkness as in the direct sunlight. Specially designed user interface of FLASHMAN II provides an easy access to any significant settings or functions of the device. A bunch of other useful features will surely also find an appreciation by the end-users. Intelligent soft-limiter to avoid any distortions due to the input overload, various profiles and presets for recording and transmission, as well as their backup onto a storage medium or using remote control via IP, user management with restricted access and many more. Detlef Wiese, one of the co-founders and General manager of MAYAH Communications GmbH: “As an innovative company being continuously in contact with the technical departments, as well as with the end-users at leading broadcasters of the world, we are aware of the real needs of the industry. Growing availability of the wired and wireless IP networks provide the previously unimaginable freedom of communication. Adding such functionalities to the professional audio recorder brings us and our customers on the next level of efficiency and allows reporters to work faster, easier and to find even more appreciation by their audience”.
