Ganymed IP Audio Codecs family delivers audio in the new IP-based network of Radio Republik Indonesia

ND SatComHallbergmoos, March 7, 2007.  MAYAH Ganymed 1102 IP Audio Codecs  and Ganymed 1002 IP Audio Decoders were chosen by ND SatCom, an SES ASTRA company and leading supplier of satellite-based broadband VSAT solutions, part of an IP-based radio contribution and distribution network  for Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI). The Jakarta-based public radio is a state owned radio broadcaster and consists of 21 regional stations. The network project was implemented by Studio Hamburg Media Consult International (MCI) GmbH and ND SatCom.

Indonesia consists of approximately 18,000 islands and about 6,000 are inhabited. The challenge was to reliably provide more than 200 million Indonesian citizens with national and regional news.

The implemented IP radio network collects regional and national content from several studios for its various radio programs in the form of IP data streams encoded by Ganymed 1102. The digital multicast streams are then sent via satellite to 95 radio transmit stations where Ganymed 1002 decodes the stream and plays it out into the local environment. From these relay stations, the radio programs are distributed terrestrially via VHF (Very High Frequency) to private households.

“We appreciate the choice of our products by the engineers at ND SatCom and MCI for the truly reliable and cost-efficient audio transmission over IP/ Satellite links in Indonesia,” says CEO and co-founder of MAYAH Communications GmbH Detlef Wiese.

“This comprehensive installation proved the flexibility of IP-based solutions for transportation of audio signals. The people of Indonesia will enjoy the easier access to the news and programs from the national broadcaster with a greatly improved audio quality”.
