Audio transmission in Europe is currently migrating from the existing synchronous networks like ISDN and dedicated lines to the packet-based “Audio-via-IP” concepts. Alongside with many projects already realized there are still lots of considerations regarding implementations, security and stability of an IP networks. European Broadcasting Union (EBU) is currently working on recommendations, which should become particular significant for a further interoperability of audio codec systems.

During the conference & workshop there will be significant Audio-via-IP technology basics addressed, network design and measurement possibilities presented, all driven by a competent panel of speakers from the diverse market sectors. In an applications context there will be also critical parameters discussed.

So the well-known in the VoIP-Industry SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) is now in a constantly growing demand for audio codec applications. Together with further IP protocols, serving the transmission itself, SIP enables establishing, control, termination and modification of an IP-connection.

To guarantee the accurate transmission there are Forward Error Correction procedures being used. For instance the Pro-MPEG FEC which allows to restore the lost data packets.

The workshop will be rounded out with a presentation of an already realised projects and practical examples.

Keywords for the conference & Workshop are: SIP, FEC, MPEG (TS) over IP, RTP, RTSP, RCVP, ToS, QoS, Contribution, Distribution, Reporting, possibilities for DVB-H, DMB, ipTV.
