MAYAH Centauri II 4000 used for DVB-H pilot project in Paris

November 17th, 2005 On 18th of October 2005, in Paris, Telediffusion de France (TDF) has launched a digital audio and video broadcasting for the newest handheld and mobile devices. The DVB-H (Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld) project offers plenty of contents to choose from. They are provided by eight TV- and thirteen radio-companies including Radio France, RFI, Lagardere group, RTL group, Nextradio group and others. Different technical contributors, among them MAYAH secure the highest quality and wide availability of the digital contents delivered to end-user.

Centauri II 4000 streaming servers are used to encode all radio programming range in MPEG-4 AAC-LC. Being then fed to Thalès Opal IP encapsulator the programs are transmitted from five sites in Paris including the world-famous Eiffel Tower to cover the capital city of France in range 12,5 km from North to South and 17 km from East to West. To let the end-user efficiently receive the digital video and audio content Sagem developed a prototype DVB-H Terminal MyX-8 DVB-H especially for this project.
