MAYAH@ hospital radio |
22th May, 2006. Hallbergmoos. Regardless of how big or how small an institution is, there is always room for improvement. This is almost certainly the case with one of MAYAHs most unusual customers – the internal radio station of two local hospitals in south-west Germany, Radio 88. Since 1988 the patients at Backnang Hospital have been listening to their favourite music – german “schlager” (hits), oldies, operas and operettas and the best of modern rock & pop, as well as interviews and some live-action – all provided by a team of volunteers. In 1993 the same group helped start a service for the 15km distant clinic in Waibling – providing it’s patients with entertainment accessible via ear-pieces and normal phones. These two very different studios were linked via ISDN in 1995. And now, ten years later, it’s time for more flexibility.
Installed by Germany’s largest telecommunications system integrator, T-Systems, the CENTAURIs are transmitting the main signal, (mono) encoded with MPEG-1 Layer 3 (mp3) at 64 Kbit/sm plus the remote studio control via its TTL input / output. And all this over just one ISDN line. Further info about Radio 88 can be found on our web-site: www.radio-88.de (german)
