MAYAH Flashman by NDR for everyone: from trainees to the staff reporters.

The public TV & Radio Broadcaster for the North Germany – Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and its regional office for the Bundesland (federal state) Niedersachsen extend its park of the MAYAH Flashman portable audio recorders. At the moment there are more than 65 devices in use by journalists and editors of the radio house of the Norddeutscher Rundfunk in Niedersachsen.

“After multiple changes of the platform for mobile recording of the hi-quality audio, we chose the Flashman as a standard recording device. Starting from the year 2007 the Flashman will also be used at the internal educational programs of the entire NDR, which are taking place in Hannover, the capital of Niedersachsen” – says Ernst Bostelmann, Head of external radio production department in Hannover.

Twice a year about 18 people start their 18 months long education as radio editors. However their first experience with a professional mobile recording equipment they make yet at the try-out stage for this course. Using a Flashman they must record their first work sample. The device is also being used in a number of workshops during the course.

“Most of the participants of the educational program are being employed by or work for the NDR after it. So more and more staff members are ready to apply the solution by MAYAH in their everyday working life” – continues Mr. Bostelmann.

One of the direct responses from one of the first-hand users of Flashman by NDR describes the most significant advantages of the unit. First of all it is an extremely  fast availability of the recorded material, comparing to the older tape- or minidisk-based systems; the specially designed chassis, which provides a comfortable grip and is very stable. And of course the well-thought-out and user-friendly interface of Flashman, allowing a quick and reliable recording in all imaginable reporting situations, from the short political statements made on the run or ad-hoc interviews to the street surveys.

After the short questioning it is clear – the Flashman recorders in their current form as well as probably upgraded in future and with a something optimized power consumption are always welcome at NDR radio facilities.
