MAYAH codecs bring St. Petersburg radio station back on air after their analogue STL is broken |

 February 25, 2008, Munich (Germany) / St. Petersburg (Russia): Official radio station of St. Petersburg Orthodox community – Radio "Grad Petrov” chose a simple but efficient solution to replace their old analogue STL. MAYAH CENTAURI II Audio Gateway Codec and Ganymed 1002 IP Audio Decoder now secure the reliable signal transport from the studio on the Vasilievsky Island in St. Petersburg to the transmitter site in the city's suburb Olgino.Currently the station broadcasts on an AM frequency, so the final mix is transmitted as mono. An available broadband connection allows the radio station to transport an uncompressed audio with 48 kHz sampling rate and according bit rate of 768 kbit/s. Anton Sergeev, technical director of Radio Grad Petrov: "As a specialist with a long-time experience in PC-based audio transmissions over IP, I can't stop wondering the Ganymed 1002. With no complicated settings to be applied, everything can easily be set up via Telnet. In fact the only parameter you may need to set is the IP address of your decoder. That's great! You just bring the decoder to the broadcasting centre, connect it to the IP network and... forget about it forever. Device is entirely independent and listens to the incoming signal all the time. When the signal is there, Ganymed automatically recognizes the coding algorithm, sampling rate and immediately starts to decode the IP audio and plays it out". Capabilities of the STL-system based on MAYAH devices allow the small but important for the local orthodox community radio station to expand their broadcasting up into stereo mode at any time. As well as to use one of the efficient audio compression algorithms in case of the broadband connection's failure. Promptly delivered by MAYAH’s partner for audio products in Russia – DIGITON Systems, the solution for Radio "Grad Petrov" arrived just in time to help the station go on air after two weeks of silence. Their analogue line, leased from St. Petersburg broadcasting centre, was damaged in the end of 2007. Obviously it wouldn’t be reasonable for the station to finance a repair of the old cable which has been laid for a long time ago in the soviet times. Now their signal is going over a VLAN directly to the transmitter, without any intermediaries.
