Centauri II in the land of the rising sun

Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) in the Kansai region in Japan chose MAYAH Centauri II for comprehensive renewal of their codecs park. The project deployment begins in April and already in the near future 12 Centauris will serve the effective programs exchange between MBS and other broadcasters while another dosen of  the units is installed to provide interconnection between MBS headquarters in Osaka and  their studios in Tokyo. The project implemented by a system integrator and MAYAH representative MTC Japan starts in April 2007.

The Centauri’s unique variety of supported interfaces, protocols and algorithms has found its use in Japan. For the permanent network within MBS branches there is a traditional MPEG Layer 2 over an X.21 interface used.  To exchange the contents with the other broadcasters MBS will use IP, ISDN or X.21-based connections with various audio coding algorithms, depending on the capabilities of the remote codecs. Centauri II can automatically establish connections to the older codecs of different manufacturers, as well as to the newest IP codecs with a standard-based implementation of SIP/RTP protocols. This unprecedented advantage became the main reason for one of the leading private broadcasters in Japan to chose MAYAH products.

Mainichi Broadcasting System (MBS) was established in 1951 as one of the first commercial radio broadcasters in Japan and began television broadcasting in 1959. MBS TV covers 22 million viewers in the Kansai region, including Osaka and Kobe, as well as Kyoto and Nara, Japan's ancient capitals. Through Japan News Network (JNN), MBS also serves the audience nationwide. MBS Radio airs an exciting array of programs 24 hours a day. MBS not only broadcasts entertainment programs, but also serves community needs, including immediate reporting of emergencies.
